How to get over your fear and sharing your story on a podcast with Sabrina Scholkowski

This is an interview video with Sabrina, the host of Pretty Sure Podcast, a Podcast Coach for entrepreneurs, and Podcast Agency Owner at Sociouse Media. The main topic of the interview is about the way to get over one’s fear and tips on podcast. She introduces useful tips on overcoming fear and starting podcast as an entrepreneur.

At first, Sabrina worked in the fashion and beauty industry as a branding expert for about six months. However, she left the field and started a podcast called Pretty Sure Podcast.

The lesson she learned from her various experiences was just do it. Even if you are not an expert, you just do it and get over the fear. When she gets afraid of some situation, she asks herself ‘where my fear comes from?’ and ‘what exactly is my fear?’. For example, she was terrified of doing something, and then she asked herself the questions. Then she realized that she could overcome her fear by starting small rather than trying to do many big things at once. For instance, when she started to post Instagram stories at the first time, it was quite a burden and afraid to upload the posts. However, she just uploaded random things and continue doing straightaway. It was quite unfamiliar and fearful to upload contents at first, but as it became a daily routine, the fear disappeared. Also, she tried to keep her mindset that it is part of the journey, so there is no reason to get afraid.

One of the tips that Sabrina gave to Podcast beginners is to do Instagram as well. She emphasizes that Instagram is a good platform to promote the podcast. There are lots of features that entrepreneurs can introduce their products and communicate with their customers. Doing Instagram doesn’t matter to podcast users who already have the large fan base, but if you are just starting a podcast or do not have enough followers, it will help to promote your brand and to attract customers.

The other tip is to create contents that you really like. Listeners will be less interested if you are not passionate and don’t know much about the contents. On the other hand, if you find your own contents and try your effort on podcast, you can create your own community of people where you can share ideas. In addition, one of the ways to increase the number of audiences is to reward them. For example, you can give discount code or promotions to active listeners so that people can not only listen to the podcast but also actively participate in the show.

After having fixed number of audiences in your podcast contents, Sabrina highlighted that there should be a call to action inside the contents. Podcasters should figure out what they want their audiences to do with the contents and the main objectives of the show. Then, they should mention specific instructions of what they really want in the contents. To be specific, there should be a link between podcast episodes and the products. For instance, a candle brand can link their product, candle, with valentine’s day.

Sabrina also mentioned that although podcast is already a saturated market, it is still a good opportunity for entrepreneurs. She pointed out that people often start podcast to promote their products or make massive money in the beginning, but lots of them just give up without continuous activities. Most podcasters stop podcasting after five to ten episodes. Therefore, she emphasized that regardless of the size of the company, it can be a great chance if people are consistent in uploading contents and devoting their time.
