This is an interview with Micah Lambert, a copywriter for creative entrepreneurs who runs blossom copy, to help clients find the right words to connect with their target audience and generate sales.
People are most often confused about the difference between content writing and copywriting. So to make it simpler, she defines that copywriting has roots in advertisements, on sales pages, websites, even on emails, and it is meant to focus on generating sales. The purpose of copy copywriting is that every sentence should compel the reader to read the next sentence. While content or creative writing is informative, creative and the focal point roots are journalism and blog posts.
She added a piece of very relevant information about the logo of your brand which correlates to writing. Your brand is not your logo, it is the visual aspect and your kind of art that doesn’t speak for itself. It needs to be expressed in written words because people need a clear road map to trust. Indeed interesting that 90% of the brain is visual, and visual things trigger attraction. Mostly, the remaining 10% of the brain is focused on written language which stimulates action.
The tip that she wants every writer and aspiring one to remember first is that you should continuously believe in your writing ability, encourage yourself that you are a good writer because trusting oneself can make you do the impossible. Second, it is foremost to have clarity over cleverness to let people know what you do and who you serve right away to get them to stick around.
When it comes to writing, everyone should always remember that the main hero of the story is not you but your client. Your existence is just there to simply guide them down the path to solving their problems. So, instead of sharing something about yourself, it is way greater to emphasize your ideal customer and their pain points.
One thing she is also passionate about is how to guide your customer on your website like a road map to get to their desired destination or solution. Every single page should give them a better picture of your existence and how you can be of help. As Micah says, always make sure to view your website as a connected roadmap and not just a random collection of pages.
Lastly, having an email newsletter should not be boring. Instead of putting on a sign up for updates, try adding value to the customer’s life because it will make a big difference. Remember to hold their hand when they are on your page.
