What is Payhip?

Payhip review

Payhip is an eCommerce solution. Payhip allows you to sell and promote your ebooks, memberships, software, design assets, music or any type of digital products directly to your customers.

There’s no coding required with Payhip, so if you’re not technically savvy, then Payhip is a great choice to start with. Besides, they have some advanced features like having the ability to have affiliated to promote your products and also the ability to do simple cross-promote and use upsells. These can be very powerful features to turn one sale into an income-generating machine.

Payhip Review- Payhip Features

Payhip digital product sales

Payhip Products

You can sell any kind of digital products on Payhip from ebooks, software, videos and more.

Once your customers complete a purchase, they will be able to instantly download the files on the page, without having to go anywhere else. The download page is also emailed to them so they can get access easily.

You can also customise the pages to fit your branding.

Checkout

You can sell directly to your customers from your website, social media, blog or anywhere at all.

Drop the checkout and cart directly into your website for a seamless purchase and download.

With Payhip’s check out option, your customers will have a great experience regardless of whether they’re on mobile, tablet or desktop.

Payhip also has a pay-what-you-want pricing option, so you can allow your customers to name their price. You can set a minimum with this option as well. This is extremely powerful if you want to take donations.

Discounts

With Payhip, you can run promotional campaigns with different coupons that you create. You can limit their use, add expiration dates and much more.

One feature I love about Payhip is the ability to create social discounts! This allows you to give discounts to customers who share your product on social media. Social Discounts on Payhip allow you to incentivise people to share your products.

You can do this simply by selecting a product and deciding on a particular discount for your audience. When somebody visits your product page they’ll see the option to “Share and get X% off”. This can get your customer to share with their network and potentially turn more visitors into customers for your products.

Affiliate system

Affiliate is a powerful way to get your fans and existing customers to talk about your products and promote to other people.

Payhip has a built-in affiliate system that allows you to easily give your audience an affiliate signup link. Through this signup link, your audience can quickly create an affiliate account and enter their payout details.

You can manually approve and reject affiliates, manage which products they can promote, the exact payment percentage or the amount you offer your affiliates and track the performance of your affiliates.

This can be very powerful to help you easily generate more sales, leveraging the power of your network.

Membership

Let’s be honest here. We want to sell products to help other people and make money. If you don’t want to pay monthly fees upfront, before you even start making money, then Payhip might just be the platform for you! In this Payhip review, let’s take a look at what Payhip is, the features of Payhip, the pro’s and con’s and determine if this is the right platform for you to sell online.

Payhip also allows you to sell Memberships, which is a great way to generate recurring income for your business. You can set up different plans with different pricing, recurring intervals with the membership model, even free trials.

If you want to give your members exclusive private files and content, Payhip can handle that for you automatically. You can simply upload the content through Payhip and everything will be sent out for the exact members you’re looking to share the content with.

Your members will be able to log in and access your exclusive content and they also have access to their very own account where they can manage their subscription.

Marketing features

You can use email updates to send a mass email to your customers. This is useful if you want to let them know about an update to a product, or perhaps that you’re launching a new product.

Within the email, you can add a download link. This is an easy way to remind customers of their download link without them having to search for their original receipt email.

If you have your own preferred email marketing autoresponder, you can also sync your customers directly to your mailing lists on MailChimp, ConvertKit, Mailerlite and many more.

WordPress integration

Another amazing functionality Payhip has is its integration with WordPress. By downloading the  WP Payhip Integration plugin into WordPress, you will be able to sell directly on your WordPress website.

All you need to do is install and activate the plugin. There are no settings, it will automatically work on all links to Payhip product pages, both existing and new ones. So, when a Payhip product page link is clicked, it will open a Payhip “Buy” pop-up box right on your website.

This is extremely powerful. If you have a WordPress website and don’t want to make your website heavy or worry about the complication of sending out files manually, then you can simply get Payhip and this plugin to start collecting payment and get the automation working in the background on your website.

Payhip pricing

Payhip review pricing

No matter which plans you get on Payhip, you will get all of the functions, which is incredible. The only difference is the transaction fee. There is also a free forever plan (and yes, still with all of the functions included). The only is, there is a 5 % transaction fee. If you are just starting, this is a great option.

If you are a little more established and you have lots of sales, then you might want to look at the upgrade options. There is the Plus plan, which is $29/month, with the transaction fee lowered to 2%. If you want no transaction fee at all, you will need the pro plan and costs $99/month.

Payhip Pros

  • Free plan available, only costs you a 5% transaction fee
  • Simple and easy to use with a minimal learning curve
  • Affiliate system available, allowing your fans to direct more customers to you
  • Support membership with recurring payments and exclusive content delivery
  • Built-in email marketing features

Payhip Cons

  • Doesn’t have extensive features or customisation
  • Heavy transaction fee if you stick with the free plan
  • Doesn’t have an upsell or cross-promotion options

Is Payhip right for you?

Payhip review pricing model

Payhip is great for you if you want to get started for free and need a simple, easy-to-use all-in-one platform to manage all of your online sales. With their affiliate program, social discounts, membership features and built-in email marketing platform, you can start selling right away.

It is also great if you have a WordPress website and want a third-party system to deal with all the payment systems and deliveries. The Payhip plugin is all you need to make that happen.

However, Payhip is not for you if you are looking for more advanced features like sales funnels, tagging and segmenting. Payhip also might not be the best for you if you want to fully customise your store.

What I think about Payhip

Payhip product sales

Payhip is a great eCommerce platform that not only has a free forever plan but includes all the functionalities you would need to make money online. Most eCommerce platforms or any support would limit what you can do with the lower payment plans, but not Payhip.

Payhip also has great features to help you maximise your income and build relationships with your audience, with all the incredible features.

I have a WordPress website on Japan travel. Since the main focus of my website is my blogs, I don’t want to install Woocommerce or any other plugin that will likely slow down my website. I also don’t have a lot of products that are selling constantly.

That’s why I decided to use Payhip to manage all of my payments and downloads with the free forever plan. Whenever my audience wants to make a purchase, all they have to do is click on a button on my website, and a pop-up box will show up without them having to ever leave my website.

Once the payment is processed, the downloads will automatically appear and they will also get added into my email list straight away. I also use the built-in affiliate function, so I can instantly turn one customer into a potential ambassador for my products.
